Once, I was in love
with the most beautiful woman.
When we got married, the stars
shone brighter than the sun.
Birdsong sounded dull in comparison
to her voice.

But we grew too involved with each other.
The gods separated us because we
neglected our work. A river came into
existence because of our ungratefulness.

To see you on the other side, slowly getting
older and more frail every day, breaks my heart.
I stay strong on the other side, and every day,
I wish I could just be by your side and hold you.
All I do now is work, but I want to be strong enough
one day to cross that river. Even if I die trying,
at least I'll be closer to you.
